The Weary Traveler Freehouse In Madison Review

Updated: Mar 14, 2020

Home of my favorite margarita
Dashelito's Black Widow Margarita

Gosh, I love a good spicy margarita. This place, The Weary Traveler in Madison, has got a good one! So good, it's now considered my favorite.

Let me explain. 'Dashelito's Black Widow Margarita' has probably got to be the best margarita I've ever tasted. One of the ingredients is a hot sauce called "Blackout," which is a blueberry habanero sauce that is to die for! This sauce is what gives the drink a flavor that tops all other margaritas.

Other ingredients include organic cane sugar simple syrup, 100% agave tequila, fresh lime juice, and triple sec. Of course, I always squeeze in the lime wedge that comes on the rim for a little more "limeness."

I can drink this drink like it's water, but I have to pace myself, so I don't get too drunk too fast, obviously!

Another thing I could take in like water is the food there. Holy meatballs, I pretty much scarfed down 'Bob's Bad Breath Burger' in 0.2 seconds. I had to slow myself down with that, too!

Let me break it down for you - I braved a juicy, half-pound of pasture-raised Wisconsin beef from Underground Butcher with cream cheese, green goddess dressing, caramelized onions, garlic, tomatoes, and Pickapeppa Sauce. I have no idea what Pickapeppa Sauce is, but I know I want more of it. Actually, I want more of ALL OF IT, including the garlic potato chips and mixed greens that came on the side.

The Weary Traveler knows their drinks and their foods. Ingredients are brought in from local farms that are sourced sustainably, and you can tell it's quality.

Enjoy it all in a chill environment that anyone can enjoy as a group, couple, or even solo. The staff is chill, a bit hipster, and can help recommend a dish if you can't decide.

The furniture is a smorgasbord of older-style booths and chairs, and the walls are adorned with local art that helps create a space for good conversation, good laughs, and a good time.

My meal cost $12 and my drink cost $8.

I give my experience here 4/5 stars!
